Seniority pay

Q:I am writing for your advice regarding GPs' seniority payment for the years 2009/10 and 2010/11. What are the minimum earnings to qualify for full seniority payment?

A: The pensionable earnings for seniority purposes from 2007/8 are still estimates and the actual earnings will not be known for a few years.

The estimate used by PCTs for 2009/10 is £94,743. To receive your full seniority, your pensionable earnings need to be above two thirds of this, £63,162. This may change once the final figures are announced.

I have no record of the estimates for 2010/11, but I doubt it will be different to 2009/10 as practices are not expecting to see an increase in income.

I suggest you speak to your PCT to ask what estimate it is using for 2010/11.
