ESSENTIAL STANDARD: Notification of death or unauthorised absence of a person who is detained or liable to be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983

People can be confident that deaths of people who use services are reported to the CQC so that, if necessary, action can be taken

Achieved by:

  • Notifying the CQC about the death or unauthorised absence of a person, who is detained under the Mental Health Act, and using the service without delay.
  • The notification must not identify the person concerned but should refer to them using a unique code of which they keep a record.
